Barefooting is a sport that only highly experienced water skiers can even attempt. This takes great balance, large feet, and a body that can handle falls. Before you even try to do something like this you should be able to master two skis skiing and slalom skiing. This is a dangerous sport but the reward of felling like you are standing on water is priceless.

What kind of toll does this type of thing take on one’s feet? My size 13s are sore at the end of the day and I wear shoes and sit behind a desk. What are the risks associated with this type of crazy activity (outside of severe injury or death, of course)? How does one practice this sort of thing?

This sport will not do too much damage to your feet as long as you do it in short periods. When you barefoot you have to go much faster than when you are on water skis. I’m 190 pounds and I go forty two miles per hour and it feels like you hit concrete when you fall. You can defiantly pull muscles or worse. You can practice off what they call a boom. A boom is a pole that is on the side of the boat that you hold onto without a rope, this teaches you stability. After the boom you can try your luck behind the boat. There are certain types of protectors like a barefoot suit that goes on your body. Also if you wanted something for your feet they make shoes but the there is no rooster tail. When you fall it will still hurt though
